PRODUCTION CONTROL

Production & Stock

Eagle3D manages printers, filaments, materials and product recipes in one production area. It calculates the material a production batch needs, keeps filament prices from several suppliers and offers an optional stock module that deducts filament, materials and finished products when orders ship.

Printer Profiles

Describe each machine once so every cost and report can use it.

Each printer has a profile under Production → Printers with the values the cost engine and reports need: wattage, purchase price, lifespan in years, daily usage hours, utilization, monthly maintenance cost and default failure rate. A print shop with one machine and a farm with twenty use the same profile structure.

Power, price and lifespan. Wattage, price and lifespan feed electricity and depreciation per print; the hourly depreciation is calculated automatically.

Daily hours and utilization. Working hours and utilization define the capacity used to allocate overhead and to measure occupancy in the machine report.

Maintenance and failure rate. Each printer carries its own maintenance cost and failure allowance, so an unreliable machine costs more per print.

How these values turn into cost is explained on Printer Electricity and Depreciation. Profiles are entered manually; Eagle3D does not read data from the printer.

Filament Catalog and Suppliers

Keep filament prices current and compare them across suppliers.

The filament catalog holds each filament by brand, type and color with a price per kilogram. A filament can list prices from several suppliers; the price of the supplier marked as default is the one recipes use.

  • Supplier prices per filament, with one default supplier for costing.
  • Materials other than filament, such as magnets, paint or packaging, with unit, unit price and material type.
  • Supplier records with company, contact person, supplied items, WhatsApp, website and supplier type.
  • Supplier search by company, product or contact person.

Recipes that use these materials are described on Recipe-Based Costing. Material types and supplier types are lists you maintain in Settings. Supplier records store contact and price information; they do not place purchase orders.

Production Planning

Know how much material and time a batch needs before you start printing.

Production Planning calculates a batch of an existing product. Choose the product and the quantity, and Eagle3D totals the filament, the additional materials and the print hours from its recipe, so you can check stock or order supplies before printing.

Total material requirements. Total weight in grams and kilograms, a suggested number of whole kilograms of filament and the quantity of each additional material.

Batch cost and revenue. Total production cost with its breakdown, total revenue at the list price, net profit, profit per unit and markup.

Planning without stock. Material requirements work whether or not the optional stock module is enabled.

Planning uses the direct production cost of the recipe; overhead and channel commission are not included in the batch figures. Printer occupancy over a period is described on Machine and Capacity Report.

Optional Stock Module

Track what you have and what you paid for it, when you are ready.

The stock module is optional and is switched on under Settings → General → Modules. When enabled, the Stock screen tracks filament, materials and finished products with their purchase prices, so the shop knows what is on the shelf and what it cost. When it is off, nothing stock-related is shown.

Stock tab What is tracked
Filaments Quantity on hand in kilograms, low-stock threshold, last purchase price and the price used in costing
Materials Quantity on hand, threshold, last purchase price and the price used in costing
Products Units on hand for products marked "made to stock"

Stock In. Record a purchase with quantity, unit purchase price and a note.

Count / Threshold. Correct the quantity after a count and set the low-stock threshold.

Produce to Stock. Add finished units of a made-to-stock product; its recipe filament and materials are deducted at that moment.

Movements. Each item keeps a history of purchases, production, orders, cancellations and count adjustments.

When the last purchase price differs from the price used in costing, the Stock screen shows both, and the costing price is updated under Production.

Stock Deduction and Low-Stock Alerts

Let shipments update stock and let the dashboard tell you when to reorder.

With the stock module enabled, stock is deducted automatically when an order becomes Shipped or Completed, and added back when the order is cancelled. No separate stock movement entry is needed.

Product mode What shipping deducts
Made to order The recipe filament (weight plus waste) and additional materials
Made to stock Only the finished product units; materials were deducted when they were produced to stock

Low-stock alerts. Items below their threshold are marked "Running low" or "Out of stock" on the Stock screen and counted in a dashboard alert.

Low-stock alerts are shown with overdue orders on Operations Dashboard. Deduction requires the stock module to be enabled before the order is shipped.

A Practical Production Workflow

  1. Create a profile for each printer with its wattage, price, lifespan, daily hours, utilization, maintenance cost and failure rate.
  2. Add filaments with prices from each supplier, mark the default supplier and add materials.
  3. Use Production Planning to see the filament and materials a batch of a product needs.
  4. Switch on the stock module when you want quantities and purchase prices tracked, and record stock in.
  5. Ship orders so stock is deducted, and watch the dashboard for low-stock alerts.

Questions About Production and Stock

Is the stock module required?

No. Printer profiles, filament prices, recipes and production planning work without it. Enable stock when you want quantities and purchase prices tracked.

Does Eagle3D connect to the printers themselves?

No. Printer profiles are entered by hand with wattage, price, lifespan and hours. Eagle3D does not connect to printers or handle print files.

Can one filament have several prices?

Yes. A filament can hold prices from several suppliers; the default supplier's price is used in costing.

When is stock deducted?

When an order becomes Shipped or Completed. Cancelling the order adds the deducted quantities back.
