PLACES FOR BANNERS AND ADS THAT KEEP THE PAGE STILL
Banner & Ad Areas
Vendix Theme has five widget areas for banners and ads on News / Magazine sites: beside the logo, before and after the post text, between posts in lists and before the footer. Each area can keep a reserved ad size, so the page does not jump while an ad or banner loads.
Five Widget Areas
Put a banner where readers actually look.
The areas are in Appearance → Widgets and are printed with the News / Magazine site type:
| Area | Where it appears |
|---|---|
| Header Area | Beside the logo in the theme header, on every page |
| Before Post Content | Above the text of a post, under its image |
| After Post Content | Below the text and tags of a post |
| Between Posts | In post lists, once, after the post number set in Customizer → Vendix → News (1 to 20), never after the last post |
| Before Footer | Above the footer of posts and post lists |
An area is printed only when it has widgets. The Before Footer area appears whoever draws the footer, the theme or a plugin layout.
Reserved Ad Sizes
Stop the page from jumping while an ad loads.
Each area has a "Reserved space" setting in Customizer → Vendix → News. The space is kept free before the ad or banner arrives, so the text does not move under the reader's finger.
| Reserved space | Size |
|---|---|
| None | The area takes the height of its content |
| Banner | 320 × 50 on phones, 728 × 90 on larger screens |
| Large banner | 320 × 100 on phones, 970 × 90 on larger screens |
| Rectangle | 300 × 250 |
| Large rectangle | 336 × 280 |
The reserved space is used only when the area has widgets. A banner with a set width does not widen the area on a narrow screen.
What Goes in an Area
Use any widget, from an image to ad code.
An area holds a banner, an ad or any WordPress widget: an image with a link, a custom HTML block with ad network code, a shortcode or a text.
- Vendix Free: the Site Banner, one image banner with a link, placed with its shortcode.
- Vendix Pro: a zone of the Banners module, with rotation, schedules, devices and daily view and click counts, placed with the
[arn_banner]shortcode or the ARN Banner widget.
Vendix Banner Zones
Let the Vendix plugin place zones in the theme by itself.
With Vendix Pro's Banners module, a banner zone can be placed in the theme's own places without any widget: above the header, beside the logo, under the header, before and after the post text on news sites, and above the footer. The zone's display rules, devices and schedule decide where and when it shows.
When a Vendix Header & Footer layout draws the header, zones set beside the logo go below that header. On a plain checkout, zones with broad rules stay out.
Layout Behavior
Keep areas tidy on every screen.
The header area sits beside the logo in the header row on desktop and moves the menu to a row of its own; on phones it takes a full row. A transparent header lies over the top of the page, so the top bar and a banner band under the header are left out there. Widgets keep their places when another site type is chosen and come back with News / Magazine.
A Practical Ad Setup
- Choose the News / Magazine site type in Customizer → Vendix.
- Pick the reserved size of each area that will hold an ad.
- Add the ad code, banner or Vendix banner zone in Appearance → Widgets.
- Check a post and a post list on a phone and a desktop screen.
Questions About Banner & Ad Areas
Do the areas work on business and store sites?
The areas are printed with the News / Magazine site type. On other types their widgets are kept and come back when News / Magazine is chosen.
Does Vendix Theme include an ad network?
No. The theme gives the places and the reserved space; the ad code comes from your ad network or from the Vendix banner modules.
Why keep a reserved size?
The reserved space stops the page from jumping while an ad loads, which keeps reading steady.
