ONE THEME, THREE KINDS OF SITES
Site Types
Vendix Theme has three site types in Customizer → Vendix: Business / Corporate, Store and News / Magazine. Each type sets starting values for the sticky header, footer columns, breadcrumbs, blog sidebar and reading time, and turns on its own store or news options, without changing saved options or content.
Business / Corporate
Keep a company site calm and clear.
Business / Corporate is the default type. It keeps the starting values of the first theme version, so an updated site looks the same until you change the type or an option.
- A header that scrolls away with the page, three footer widget columns and no breadcrumbs.
- A blog sidebar at the end of posts and the reading time on posts.
- The blog and post options of every site type, such as post list layouts, related posts and a reading progress bar, are available here too.
Store
Give a shop the frame a shop needs.
The Store type starts with a sticky header, four footer columns, breadcrumbs and no blog sidebar, and it hides the reading time. With WooCommerce active, the store options in Customizer → Vendix → Store add header search, account and cart icons, a plain checkout and styled store pages.
News / Magazine
Give a publication its reading features and ad places.
The News / Magazine type starts with four footer columns, breadcrumbs, a blog sidebar and the reading time. It adds the news options in Customizer → Vendix → News: a top bar with the date and a Top Bar menu, five widget areas with reserved space for banners and ads, published and updated date and time, and larger image sizes for news cards.
On news sites the standfirst, related news and the reading progress bar are on by default.
Starting Values
See what each type changes.
| Option | Business / Corporate | Store | News / Magazine |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sticky header | Off | On | Off |
| Footer widget columns | 3 | 4 | 4 |
| Breadcrumbs | Off | On | On |
| Blog sidebar | End | None | End |
| Reading time | On | Off | On |
Footer columns are drawn only when they have widgets, so the column value changes nothing until widgets are added. Every other default, such as the transparent header (off), is the same for all types.
Switching Types
Change the type without losing work.
The site type changes only starting values. An option you saved in the Customizer keeps its saved value, and no content or WordPress setting changes. Widgets in the news widget areas keep their places while another type is chosen, and come back when News / Magazine is chosen again.
Plugins can read the type through vendix_theme_site_type(). The Vendix plugin uses it, for example, to suggest the matching Header & Footer presets and setup type.
A Practical Type Choice
- Choose the type that matches the site's main job.
- Look at the header, footer and a post in the Customizer preview.
- Change single options where the starting value does not fit.
- Switch the type later if the site changes; saved options stay.
Questions About Site Types
Does changing the site type change my content?
No. It changes only starting values of theme options. Saved options, content and WordPress settings stay as they are.
Can a store site also have a blog?
Yes. The blog and post options work on every site type; the Store type only starts without a blog sidebar and without the reading time.
Are the news widget areas lost when I switch to another type?
No. They are registered on every site type, keep their widgets and are printed again when News / Magazine is chosen.
